Travel statistics - the series

The "travel statistics" will be a series of posts we intend to update during the trip. It will basically consist of the most thoroughly collected and relevant data about the world and our interactions with it. These posts will provide think tanks, research companies, governments and our mothers with a plethora of inputs for their data bases, a humble but valorous contribution from two engineers on the road.

So here goes a draft of some figures:

Days on the road: 89

Countries visited: 9

Number of countries where we saw Bolivians playing El-Condor-Pasa-like songs: 6
Number of countries where we heard Michel Teló and/or Gustavo Lima: 8 (in Israel we have not had the pleasure of listening to these masterpieces, but a friend did, many times)

Number of different types of beer we tasted: 108 (+1 tonight)

Days sick (sum of both of us): 0

Number of people we met who knew The Devil Makes Three: 2
Number of people we met who were doing round-the-world trips (or similar): 6
Number of words we learned in written Hebrew and Arabic: 0 

Will to stop travelling and start working (0 to 10 scale): 0

Leaving some deep quantitative knowledge for the future generations (Wadi Rum, Jordan).

Better late than still!

At last our travel blog starts. We've been traveling since August 21st, but haven't yet blogged about the trip due to our strong commitment to night life (our time consuming plan-on-the-go style and the fact that we can't take Wi-Fi connection for granted also played their role).

Before we get stories going, a little word about the chosen language for the blog: the posts will mostly be in English so that most people we meet during our wanderings can understand our tales, opinions and suitable lies. We also apologize in advance for eventual mistakes, this is not our mother language. When the need for eloquent self-expression occurs, we may switch to Portuguese. When we feel like saying "get really drunk" in one verb, we may make use of German.

Anyway, we are now in Olympos, Turkey. A quiet town on a rainy day, good opportunity for starting a blog and planning the days ahead. We intend to make up for the delay by posting a bit about the past. To sum up, so far we have done the following:

08/21/2012 - departure from São Paulo to London
08/22/2012 to 09/01/2012 - UK and Ireland (cities visited: London, Liverpool and Dublin)
09/02/2012 to 09/18/2012 - Netherlands and Belgium (cities visited: Amsterdam, Brussels, Ghent, Bruges, Poperinge, and a lot of towns around the later).
09/19/2012 to 10/09/2012 - Germany (cities visited: Munich during the mighty Oktoberfest, Erlangen, Nuremberg, Bayreuth, Bamberg, Forchheim and its lovely Kellerbier bars, Hamburg and Berlin)

This was the part of the trip we like to call "the beer route" (for obvious reasons). On October 9th we took a flight to Istanbul. Apart from that, we've been to Ephesus, Pamukkale, Aphrodisias and took a 4-day cruise from Fethiye to Olympos, where we are now.

The subject of our posts may vary from stories and pictures to statistics and fantasy. We hope to entertain you all and are open to questions, suggestions and million-dollar donations.
